Goblet squat

The goblet squat is kept when a single load can be held at the centre and its exact weight exists in your inventory.

Execution

How to do it

  1. 01

Feet about shoulder-width apart, the weight held vertically against your chest.

  2. 02

Elbows close to your ribs, back straight.

  3. 03

Squat down as low as you can while keeping your back straight.

  4. 04

Stand back up by pushing both feet into the floor.

Common mistake

Letting the weight drift away from your chest and your back round.

The decision

When this movement makes sense

It loads the knee-dominant pattern with a clear central configuration and works with a fixed dumbbell, an adjustable dumbbell or a kettlebell.

When this changes

Having two loads does not automatically turn the movement into a front squat: the configuration, range and rest change.
