Suitcase march

The suitcase march holds a load on one side, then the other, without needing a path across the room.

Execution

How to do it

  1. 01

Hold the weight in one hand, arm by your side, back straight.

  2. 02

March on the spot, lifting your knees, without leaning toward the weight.

  3. 03

    Keep your shoulders level throughout.

  4. 04

Switch hands on the next set.

Common mistake

Leaning toward the weight with every step.

On the spot rather than walking, when space is limited. Sources: ACE — Suitcase Carry. These cues do not replace a professional if you have pain or are in rehabilitation.

The decision

When this movement makes sense

It keeps part of the asymmetric carry when walking space is missing, with an explicit cost per side.

When this changes

If a safe path exists and travelling is wanted, the classic suitcase carry is another configuration, not a synonym.
