Execution

How to do it

  1. 01

Sit on a stable seat, back straight (against a backrest if you have one), feet flat, a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height.

  2. 02

Brace your abs, shoulders down and back, wrists straight.

  3. 03

Press the dumbbells overhead until your arms are straight, without arching your lower back.

  4. 04

Lower slowly to shoulder height, torso still.

Common mistake

Arching your lower back to press higher.

The decision

When this movement makes sense

Its value is the loaded vertical push; its seat and ceiling requirements make it less universal than a floor push.

When this changes

A wobbly stool or a low ceiling is not a detail: missing a single support removes the whole configuration.
