Lateral raises require a pair of dumbbells and remain an accessory once the main movements are covered.

Execution

How to do it

  1. 01

Stand holding a dumbbell in each hand alongside your thighs, palms facing your body, elbows slightly bent.

  2. 02

Brace your abs, shoulders down and back.

  3. 03

Raise your arms out to the sides up to shoulder height, elbows slightly ahead of your wrists.

  4. 04

Lower slowly, without arching your lower back.

Common mistake

Shrugging your shoulders or using momentum from your torso.

The decision

When this movement makes sense

They add isolated shoulder work when both loads and the budget really exist.

When this changes

In a short workout or with a single dumbbell, they do not take the place of a main push just to fill the plan artificially.
