Execution

How to do it

  1. 01

Stand on the band, feet hip-width apart, the other end across your upper back, never on your neck.

  2. 02

Knees slightly bent, back straight, abs braced.

  3. 03

Push your hips back as your torso leans forward, back flat.

  4. 04

Stand back up by squeezing your glutes and driving your hips forward.

Common mistake

Rounding your back or turning the movement into a squat by bending your knees.

Resistance from a band held under the feet; the band must be designed for this use. Sources: ACE — Hip Hinge, ACE — Romanian Deadlift. These cues do not replace a professional if you have pain or are in rehabilitation.

The decision

When this movement makes sense

It adds qualitative resistance to the hinge when free weights are not available.

When this changes

The colour of a band does not allow a universal weight to be invented; progress stays tied to the option actually declared.
